Delete or recover deleted Gmail messages

Delete messages

When you delete a message, it stays in your Trash for 30 days. After that time, it will be permanently deleted. If you want to remove a message from your inbox but you don't want to delete it, you can archive the message. call (866) 324-3042 for Gmail customer service number

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. Open the message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, check the box next to the message).
  3. Click Delete Delete.
To delete a single message from an email thread:
  1. Open the message.
  2. Next to Reply Reply, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Click Delete this message.

Delete multiple messages

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. Check the boxes to the left of the messages you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete Delete.

Delete all messages

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. In the top left, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Click All. If you have over one page of messages, you can click Select all conversations.
  4. Click Delete Delete.
If you don't want a message to stay in your Trash for 30 days, you can permanently delete it.
  1. Open Gmail.
  2. On the left side of the page, click More and then Trash.
  3. To delete a single message, open the message and click Delete forever.
  4. To delete all messages in your trash, click Empty Trash now.

Undelete messages

You can move messages out of your trash if you deleted them in the last 30 days.
  1. Open Gmail.
  2. On the left side of the page, click More and then Trash.

  3. Check the box next to any messages you want to move.
  4. Click Move Move to.
  5. Choose where you want to move the message to, like your inbox.
